UM Shows Interest in K Linkenheimer

Article posted on 11/28/2009

The University of Miami has expressed interest in Daytona Beach Mainland kicker Jonathan Linkenheimer.

Linkenheimer, 6-3, 215, has a powerful leg, who is best at punting and kicking off, but can also hit field goals.

“It’s hard to say which I am the best at,” Linkenheimer said. “I have average 45 yards a punt, 72 yards a kickoff, and my accuracy is coming along on my field goals.”

He has converted 4-of-7 field goals for Mainland (8-2), with all three misses being over 50 yards, two of which hit the crossbar. He has made one from 50.

His high school coach and kicking coach are handling his recruitment right now as he doesn’t want to deal with it during the season.

According to his kicking coach Mike McCabe, the president of One on One Kicking, Miami is “very interested”. East Carolina and Central Florida are also showing high interest.

“My coach says Miami is really interested and they want to see me kick,” Linkenheimer said.

Linkenheimer has seen the UM campus twice.

“The have a good business school and I want to study business, but there are a lot of good ones,” he said. “I know they are private school, a really good school, but other than that I don’t know much.”

He thinks Miami has a bright future on the field.

“They are doing good,” he said. “I think they are going to be really good next year. They are a really young team. It looks like they are coming together.”

Mainland faces Jacksonville Sandalwood in the first round of the 6A state playoffs on Friday in their quest to make it to the state championship game in Orlando on December 19.

“I know they have three good players, two really good returners, I’ve just told to hit them behind them, don’t kickoff to them,” he said.

Mainland features a number of talented prospects including 2010 prospects Ricardo Allen (Purdue), O.J. Ross (Purdue), Chevin Davis, and Quinn Bell. In addition, 2011 prospects Marlin Lane (Clemson) and Cortez Davis (Clemson) are also key pieces to the Buccaneers success.

“It’s an enjoyable group,” Linkenheimer said.
