St. Pius X alumnus selected to all-decade football team

ATLANTA- St. Pius X Alumnus Chris Philpott has been selected to the Class AAAA All-Decade Football Team by Georgia High School Football Daily. Philpott was also a placekicker and defensive back for the Golden Lions. He is currently a placekicker at the University of Louisville.

Philpott averaged 41.0 yards per punt during his career at St. Pius X. He was selected first-team All-State and All-Region in 2007. He was selected All-Dekalb County and All-Southeast his senior year as well. During his senior season, Philpott placed 16 punts inside the 20-yard line, while recording 53 touchbacks on 57 kickoffs. He also set the school record for longest field goal, connecting from 51-yards against Columbia.

“Chris was an outstanding student/athlete for us and the best kicker we have had since I have been here-in addition to that he is the only kicker-which we have had many good ones-who played a position for us and was an outstanding defensive back,” said St. Pius X Head Football Coach Paul Standard.

In addition to his kicking duties for the Golden Lions, Philpott was also named the 2007 St. Pius X Defensive Player of the Year for his work as a defensive back. He recorded two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, as well as recovering or causing four fumbles. He also had 37 tackles and 14 pass break-ups his senior campaign. Philpott also played three seasons on the Golden Lion boys’ soccer team.

Currently a placekicker with the University of Louisville football team, Philpott handled all the kickoff duties in 2009. He recorded 4 touchbacks on 40 kickoffs, and connected on all five field goal attempts with a long of 44-yards. Philpott continues to excel in the classroom at Louisville as he was named to the Dean’s List for the 2009 Fall Semester.
